Jaegar (Jay) Lombardo

Jay's Moodboard by Rachel who captured him completely.

Jaegar Lombardo (Jay) is the older of Camilla Lombardo's two children with Heydon Mitchell. He was born in a time of relative peace in the Lombardo family - Camilla's two brothers were still living; Gabe had not yet disappeared; Camilla's friends were muddling along, some muddling better than others; and Camilla's brother Tony's wife, Jay's Aunt Eden, was safely murdered.

For both his parents it was a fun, happy time, a good time to have a child they never expected to want but found they did.

Even if he turned out to be a rather strange one.

Jay was a bratty child, gleeful when he got a shocked or negative reaction from teasing (his shy neighbor Hugs was a favorite target).

He wasn't popular.  The kids in the neighborhood didn't invite him along or include him, and their parents didn't object.  At age seven his parents were kindly asked to consider another school for Jay.  He had outgrown what he was interested in learning at that particular school and was notoriously uncooperative when asked to learn anything else.

As a child Jay entered an unusual internship under the care of the famous mathematician and astrophysicist, Kenley Dirac. She was provided the child support on both an emotional and intellectual level and was the greatest influence in his life.  Jay considered her daughters weird and superstitious and he kept his distance from them.

Kenley's death devastated Jay.  He left the Wind Island Observatory and for many months refused to return. He could not have reasonably explained why if someone had asked him why he left, or why he finally returned, but no one did.

He is alone, suffering from the death of his mentor and struggling with isolation.  That's an unacceptable attitude for a Lombardo, and he knows it.

Jay is expected to live up to the family's standard of superiority and fearlessness, and he's been given a model he cannot challenge - his mother's paragon Gabe.   Gabe is a legend.  Jay strongly believes that the legend is based on nothing Gabe himself worked for or accomplished. As far as Jay is concerned, Gabe only created chaos and even took credit for the chaos he didn't create.

Jay hopes Gabe is really dead.  He is also afraid he may not be.

  1. Another interesting character! He seems like a good person, although probably difficult to deal with for most people. You took some wonderful pictures of him growing up. I especially like the one of him as a baby in his mother's arms. The colours in that one are so beautiful. Also, the scenery in the last picture of him is just gorgeous! You really have an eye for these kinds of things. Having him stand on a balcony with that view below, at night to make it all more mysterious, really was genious. / Ani

    1. Thank you!

I had mixed feelings about Jay as I was watching him grow up. He was arrogant, and condescending, and dismissive and mocking, NOT nice, but now he's learning the cost of those attitudes. He's been wrong and the price he may pay is very high - possibly fatal. He can't accomplish anything he wants to do and other people aren't necessarily stupid and incompetent just because they aren't like him.

Jay is expected to live up to the family's standard of superiority and fearlessness, and he's been given a model he cannot challenge. On top of that, he's alone and after the death of his mentor realizes he doesn't want to be. That's an unacceptable attitude for a Lombardo. He knows it.

As I write about a character I sometimes change my mind about who they really are. I'm glad I'm not writing anything important!

Thank you so much for the compliments on the pictures. I am not a real writer; I definitely need the help the pictures give me in going where I want to go and showing what I want to show without relying on words and spend a lot of time on them. Your work is so beautiful that it means a lot to me that you like what I try to do.

Again, thank you for reading this stuff and leaving me comments!
